"The feminine, the mystical, and the creative process are spontaneous, almost childlike. Self-taught, my painting began with a physical and emotional interruption. The empty nest syndrome was replaced by the space occupied by the canvases and colors. I invite you to traverse that path with the eyes of intrigue that this journey has instilled in me. They are the eyes that appear, looking at us and telling a story through their gazes."

Letter from Estér Cayón, MADRE TIERRA MADRE MIA

"When Pía arrived in Quito, she came accompanied by her sculptures. Working with clay was part of her essence, but she had a latent interest in painting. Today, as she is about to leave, she has chosen me to present this exhibition because I have been present from the beginning of her pictorial process.

I can say that since she arrived at my studio, I have been more of a spectator than a guide, as Pía is not someone who adheres to pre-established concepts or academic conventions. Her work is totally spontaneous, and she, when she is in her moment of creation, is, as one of her studio companions aptly put it, 'an erupting volcano.' The colors and textures emerge in her paintings without any prior sketch, only obeying an impulse that leads her to encounter those women, with the masks, with the jungle or with the underwater world, reminiscences, perhaps, of lived situations that, in her journey through our different towns and cultures, remained fixed in her eyes, and her hands have vehemently captured them on the canvas to take us on a journey through her paintings and sculptures.

I invite you all to begin this journey and enjoy the adventure of discovering in the enigmatic eyes of those women who observe us deeply, why we are left with the sensation of wanting to know more about this work."
